Dear Family, Prayer Partners and SIESTAS,
It is with deep joy and appreciation to God for His loving mercies that I greet you!
Today I take the time to reflect over the past ten days of being 'in another world' so to speak! The same morning we were to fly out, I was up with Rai Baby with such a high fever, I gave her a cold bath, showered her with prayer and tried to finish my packing for the six week overseas mission trip. My how awesome is our God; for by the time Trev picked up Rai around 4:45 A.M, I was packed and almost ready to head to the airport.
Sue and I arrived in BARBADOS on Wednesday July 28th; she for the very first time and me, a nostalgic return home. We were greeted like royalty by my sister-in-law Joan and niece Dianika, long time friends Rev. & Mrs. Rexford Toppin, and lifelong buddy-friend Saundra Lashley Graham. On the way to Bridgetown, we gave testimony of how God added icing on our trip cake; by granting favor agents even when we missed our second plane from Chicago to Miami. We got better seats and the airline attendant was the very best in that position I have ever met. He is a Christian and when I gifted him a Wordless Book, you would have thought I had given him gold. Apparently he had lost the one his grandmother had given him years prior and had been praying to find another. I was elated to see the joy this brought to him. To date I have given over 200 Wordless Books!
Sincere appreciation to all of you who contributed to the WORDLESS BOOK GOSPEL ministry!
The Christian Union Church 2nd Regional Women's Conference was held at the University of the West Indies, July 30th - August 2nd. In a nutshell it was incredible! Truly a God-thing! All praises to Him! Yours truly was humbled to be a small part of His doings, and many of the sisters in Jesus rededicated or surrendered their lives to Him. Along with powerful preaching, a Family Meeting and wonderful representation from each island, we shared a reflective, interactive time of tackling some of the hard questions of the roles women in Family Life. The conference was attended by women from Antigua, Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago along with host-island, Barbados interdenominational women. The worship was seasoned with the Spirit of God and each session saw women in surrender to His touch. The conference ended with an island tour which greatly pleased Sue. Like a girl with her fist toy, she relished each sight - each new experience and has hundreds of photos to document this.
I also had the opportunity to meet the island’s local director and assistant for Child Evangelism Fellowship; Diane Bentley and Sheron Alleyne Knight. Along with their summer workers, we had the opportunity to share the Gospel with some 175 plus children at some of their government, summer camps. I had the humbling privilege to assist with the younger children and to lead nine of them into the family of God. It was quite a blessing to pair with two young ladies; one of whom has an obvious gift for teaching young children. With maturity and training, Victoria could one day be an excellent therapist/Child Evangelist!
Amidst all of the above, I was so blessed to visit with family and friends, taking many a trip down memory lane. I was thrilled to point out to Sue the site of my baptism, the corner shop I frequented as a lass; the classroom where I taught my first Sunday School class and the house where I borrowed a lamb from the neighbor as show and tell for my lesson that Sunday. Having Sue as a travel partner is truly s God-thing! She waited thirty-some years to return to the Caribbean, and experiencing her first time in Barbados has simply elated her. Seeing my home folk and island beauty through her eyes has rekindled my appreciation for God’s choice of where I was born and raised. It is all such a fabulous reflection – for as a Barbadian woman who has lived much of her adult like in Kentucky USA, I am privileged to experience some of the best of both worlds. For this I am grateful!
You must hear the passport saga – so in a nutshell, I left home with my Barbadian passport about to expire. That in it proved to be a miracle as one is no longer allowed to travel on a passport with less than six months validity. I, however, argued that I was heading to my homeland and intended to have it renewed there. On arriving in Barbados, I learned that not only did I have to have a brand new passport; such would not be available for three to six weeks. I was scheduled to leave a week after the application was turned in, and two of those day were deemed ‘bank holidays’ which meant the offices were to be closed. God worked through be lifelong friend Marcie who made the right connections to have the process expedited. However, though the passport was ready to be picked up by Friday, I did not get the word or get to the office until it was an hour closed. Again God worked through Marcie, and her connection was able to retrieve the passport and I, though hot and breathless, sighed relief and arrived in DOMINICA on Saturday, August 7th, 2010.
